CHURCH OF CHRIST
OUR STORY
We first show our respect to, and acknowledge, the Wurundjeri people as the Traditional Custodians of the land we meet on, and we are proud to partner with Melbourne Indigenous Church who also meet at 252 Gordon Street.
Footscray Church of Christ has been active in the inner west of Melbourne for over 140 years, with meetings beginning in 1878 in the old Footscray Mechanics Institute. The church has a long heritage of service in the community. And Footscray Church of Christ also planted other churches in the west of Melbourne, including Maidstone and Werribee Churches of Christ.
We now meet at 252 Gordon Street in Footscray and have about a hundred members, young and old, and from all around the world. We are a bit more informal than the old days, there are no more suits and ties and our meetings are pretty relaxed. But we are still passionate about Jesus and loving our local community in the inner west.
We also hope that our church building and hall can be a space for community use. Along with Melbourne Indigenous Church, the building is also used by a number of other organisations, mental health groups, church fellowships, playgroups, youth programs and fitness groups.
